There are a number of things the freelance writer can do to cover themselves for periods of uncertain income stemming from periods of financial uncertainty. By acting on the following tips and tricks, it is possible to stay afloat throughout even the bleakest times.

In times of financial difficulties, it is important to market skills and services that appeal to the culture at the time. CV writing services, marketing roles and freelance promotion and web copy editing are all jobs which will increase in value proportionally to times of economic hardship.

Training and personal development are critical for freelancers who want to stay afloat. Invest in courses such as proofreading, editing and medical or technical writing which will enhance a freelancers CV and broaden marketable skills. No education is ever wasted, and these skills will give a writer the edge over competitors.

Be Adaptable and Open to New Projects

Branch out and consider undertaking projects which would normally not appeal. By embracing new areas it will be possible to stay financially stable.

Each time a freelancer applies for a role, it is worth taking a few moments to enhance the CV or resume to directly match the requirements of the company being applied to. Aligning to a single client may seem disheartening for the freelancer who dislikes routine. However, in times of financial difficulties, a regular lower income can be of more value than a higher paid erratic supply of work.
