Self employment and working from home can be pretty tricky - not all employers come through when they should. Learn how to make money, even with work at home.

Need to know how to make money? Being self employed, and working from home, means being alone. Work at home professionals have to learn how to manage their own finances, dictate their own schedules, stay on track with all tasks – because work isn’t the only chore at home that has to be tended to. Those who work at home even have to learn how to find their own jobs…but when it comes to knowing how to make money, there’s a whole lot more to working from home.

The Rates

A lot of job ads ask for “cover letter, resume, and rates.” Self employed professionals who want to reap monetary benefits should establish a loose self-rate in their minds, and stick to this number as much as possible. For writers, establish a rate based on words written, while other work at home professionals may base their rates on time, an hourly basis. Establish a rate, and provide this information when asked.

The List

It’s always a good idea to keep a list of work submitted. Always include the dates of submission, the contact information, and any new information (such as payment information received). This way, work at home professionals know when payment is overdue, and can keep track of emails sent asking about payments.

The Invoice

Some self employed professionals may need to work up their own invoices, sending these in with work submissions. It’s a good idea to develop an invoicing system just in case, to keep employers on track with payments due. Use a simple, easy to read, uncluttered form that provides a brief description of the work performed and the dates. It’s always important to include dates, and be sure to provide accurate and up-to-date contact information.

The Account

For those who want to make money with work from home, it’s going to be necessary to establish a PayPal account. Many, many Internet employers use PayPal, which is a quick and easy online payment service. Establish and verify an account with PayPal. This process generally takes a few days, but for self employed professional who want to make money it’s very much worth the time. Always provide employers with the accurate PayPal account information, and invite them to send funds via this method. PayPal is the work from home professional’s strongest financial tool.

How to Make Money

Making money with work from home is about finding the right jobs and completing tasks, but there’s a lot more to staying on track with payments. Be sure to keep records, invoice employers when funds are due, and always write emails if any payment clarification is needed. Remember, it’s your money – so don’t be afraid to ask about it.
